The Writer's Challenge

History

Mindy and I (Lakisha) would like to welcome you to the "Writer's Challenge."

It started out as a personal challenge between friends and has grown to include any writer who wishes to participate.

The goal is simple: to challenge a writer to write outside their comfort genre(s) and write a short story in that year's theme.

We hope to make this an annual event.

So writers, grab your creativity, your beverage of choice, and your typing skills, and let the challenge begin.

The Writer's Challenge: General Rules

1) Word length: Minimum of 5,000 words with a maximum of 15,000 words.

2) Remember this is a short story. Make sure to include a plot, as well as a beginning, middle and ending.

3) You must follow the theme.

4) It is recommended that you join the Writer's Challenge Group. It is not required but it is preferred. The purpose of the group is to help participants encourage each other in their writing during the challenge.

5) If you have any questions, please message Lakisha or Mindy.

6) All entries must be original - Fan-Fiction or Literary RP is not permitted.

7) If you have a story that you had started and laid aside, you can use it in this challenge AS LONG AS you stick to the theme and the rules for the theme.

8) You must register and upload your story to the Writer's Challenge Storyboard to be considered for the Writer's Challenge Anthology.

The Writer's Challenge: 2010 Rules

This year's theme is "Ordinary People, Extraordinary Events."

What this means for you:

1) Your main character MUST be human. NO EXCEPTIONS!

2) The story must focus on the human character.
